How do you come up with your wills prices?
I charge prices for wills that I believe are fair to you and me and I believe my prices for wills offer tremendous value to clients.
I spend more time than most lawyers with my clients and walk you through the process start-to-finish. My goal is to help come up with an estate plan that fits your life.
I don't ask you to fill out a detailed questionnaire in advance asking you what you want. I go through all the questions with you providing context and advice along the way.
To me, that's what you're really paying for - the advice of an experienced wills lawyer!
After all, if you don't do this all the time, you might not know what you don't know and end up missing a key piece.
And I'm not a general practitioner - I exclusively practice in wills and estates. I've drafted a lot of Wills and whatever questions you might have, I've probably seen it before.
I've also helped a lot of clients adminsiter estates and been an executor for many estates myself. That means I can give you practical advice on the kind of plans that look great on paper but work out really poorly in real life.
I know my wills prices aren't the right fit for everybody, but, as with most things in this world, you get what you pay for.
Why are Wills prices so variable?
If you're shopping around you may have noticed that prices for wills can vary wildly.
A downtown law firm with a fancy office might charge $5,000-$10,000. Or you can get a cheap DIY fill-in-the-blank will for $25. Or a general practitioner might prepare a will for you with no actual planning meeting or advice (questionniare only) for a few hundred dollars.
Every lawyer has a different business model and a different sense of their value and so a different price for wills.
I like to think I offer a middle-of-the-road approach to my will prices. Not too expensive, but not too cheap that I can't spend the time with my clients that I need to in order to deliver a lot of value and make sure they got a comprehensive estate plan.
I'm a frugal lawyer - I hate high overhead and work hard to make sure I don't have a lot of fixed expenses that I need to pass on to clients.
While it might be nice to have a fancy office, an assistant and a clerk, that would mean I would need to start charging clients a lot higher prices for wills. Those benefit me; not you. And that's not fair.
The last thing I want is for someone to finish the process with me and think, "that wasn't worth it."

Then we'll schedule a time for a quick 5-10min. intro phone call so I can get some background on your circumstances, explain my process and make sure we're on the same page and finalize your pricing for wills.
